Goldman Sachs still has the strongest bench strength on the street at any level. Their cafeteria lady is probably better. As long as they continue to attract the best and the brightest they will continue to come out on top.
Recent mortgage banking settlements is good. Problems relate to 2007/8 which is a long time ago. Time to move on. More virgins at the next altar.
Most of their American and European competitors have been forced to re-structure and are distracted. This allows Goldman to focus on what needs to be focused on.
Goldman is good, very good at wringing profits from low margin businesses. Options and derivatives need volumes to justify.
